Experience heavenly landscapes in untouched nature on the Bavarian sea. The new trail around the Chiemsee is one of the most beautiful in the Alpine country. The new "Chiemsee-Light-Tour" is especially for families with children - a combination of a bike tour and boat ride - the best thing since sliced bread! The bike tour leads 32 km from Prien to Chieming along the east river bank. With comfortable rentable bicycles (full suspension, puncture resistant tyres, with an optional fun trailer for children from the age of three). Cosy river banks, on the way, invite you to picnic, and rustical guesthouses for contemplation. The second part of the enjoyable tour begins in Chieming - a boat ride along the lake back to Prien. Stopovers on the islands are offered on the way, with walks to the flower gardes around the convent on the Fraueninsel or to the magnificent Ludwig II. palace on the Herreninsel.

The Wendelstein is tradionally the local mountain in the region and the highest peak of the Wendelsteinmassiv. The summit station is the starting point for spectacular hikes in the summer months. Once there, only 100 metres in altitude separate you from summit happiness. The 20 minute climb is almost a must. Not only does the breathtaking 360° panorama await you at the top, but also the tiny Wendelin chapel, which has been there since 1718, despite wind and weather. Diverse technical-scientific establishments, like the Munich university observatory can also be found there. The 1,838 metre climb is shortened by the GEO-parks information signs about the origination of the alps. More highlights: Wendelstein chapel, walk-in Wendelstein cave and stops-possibilities at the Wendelsteinhaus.

The first contact with the city is already impressive. Wasserburg seems to be cut off from civilization because of the position of the island and the topographical seperation from the Inn and the steep slope. You behold the scenery, as if it was a fairy tale, as soon as you arrive. A city with pastel-coloured walls, with bays and battlements, with a gateway and a mighty castle. Who had never imagined an old city like this, as a child in their fanstasy? Wasserburg am Inn - The almost fully intact middle-age old city is a first class place to see, as a whole. Almost every building in the city has a long, mostly century-old history.

Special places to see:

  • Heiliggeist Spital
The Spital church salvages an over 500 year old wood carved altar picture, which presents the Pentecostal miracle.

  • Pfarrkirche St. Jakob
Magnificent renaissance work done bye the Zürn brothers in the inside of the pulpit.

  • Frauenkirche
The oldest church in Wasserburg- built in 1324.

  • City museum Wasserburg
Dedicated to the histpry of the city and the Wasserburg area.

  • Castle and castle chapel
The castle can unfortunately not be visited anymore, as an old age home and a convent are now behind the walls.

  • View platform "Schöne Aussicht"
Offers a wonderful view over the old city.

  • Brucktor
The house-fronts stretch along the banks of the Inn river, like a colouful city wall.

  • First imaginary museum
Over 500 painting masterpieces are accomodated here.

  • Hungerturm
Former jail for debtors of the city.

  • Harbour
For small trips on the Inn
